An essential piece of Detroit dance music history share his story with Ash Lauryn.

Mike "Agent X" Clark is one of the original ambassadors of the Detroit house sound. Clark began his lifelong musical journey growing up on Detroit's west side surrounded by jazz, funk and disco. In the decades since, he's made classic tracks, DJ'd, run a label and coined the term "beatdown." Beatdown, in its essence, is the idea that Detroit dance music is a forward-thinking mesh of sounds including, but not limited to, jazz, Motown, funk, gospel and hip-hop.

Clark has held many residencies in Detroit throughout his career, including his label Beatdown Sounds' first residency at Club OneX and the more widely known Rehab at Agave, which became one of the longest-running house music nights in Detroit history. With a resume that includes working with labels such as Planet E, Underground Resistance and Third Ear, Clark has been, and remains, dedicated to putting out quality tracks and sharing his love of music in Detroit and beyond.

This Exchange is the second in a collaborative series of podcasts hosted by Underground And Black's Ash Lauryn, a DJ, writer, radio host and RA contributor.

The RA Exchange is also available on Spotify.
