Darren Cunningham talks karma and desire.
It's difficult to picture the last decade of electronic music without Actress. Particularly since the release of 2008's Hazyville LP, his foggy but richly creative style soundtracked a world entering an era of austerity, and saw the artist evolve from an electronic music cult favourite to one regarded as uniquely significant in modern music generally. Each of his solo LPs are considered landmarks, making the recently released Karma & Desire one of the most anticipated of the year.
In conversation with Martha Pazienti-Caiden, Actress talks about finding inspiration in the pages of auction catalogues, writing lyrics for the first time, and contrasting AI composition with the legacy of piano.
